Kay began her yoga practice in 2002 as a self-avowed “runner who doesn’t stretch” when her friend and running partner, Sally Brown Bassett, opened a studio at Eagle Creek Park. Her asana practice remained sporadic until 2010, when Sally convinced her she would enjoy delving further into the spiritual and philosophical aspects of yoga with teacher training—she was hooked! She completed her 200 hour certification with Peace Through Yoga in 2011. After 8 years of consistent teaching and practice she believes that, while the physical practice may ebb and flow, there is a constantly accessible power in present awareness and the breath.
Kay teaches a slow flow style that strives to be safe and engaging and which may vary from whimsical to reverent, peaceful to energetic depending on the class needs. She values the community created by group classes that can energize and encourage home practice.
Outside (and alongside) yoga Kay has worked as a physical therapist for 21 years in both hospital and outpatient settings, so she does like to include balance work in each class! Free time is spent with her husband Brian and often involves running, reading, swing dance, music, cooking, travel, or some combination of the above.
