An Interview with Larry Bechtel
Meet Purple Posse member Larry Bechtel! Larry is an active athlete who joined the kOMpose community this spring. Learn more about how he’s come to make yoga a regular part of his life.
When did you start practicing yoga?
March of this year.
Why did you start practicing at kOMpose?
I live a mile from Broad Ripple. I was looking for something close by and I have a couple rowing teammates that go to kOMpose. (I row for the Indianapolis Rowing Center at Eagle Creek). They encouraged me to try it. I was also encouraged by the low cost of the first month with unlimited use. I saw it as a great way to quickly figure out if yoga would work for me.
How does yoga enrich your life?
For me, it is primarily about flexibility. I have been very active as a competitive athlete my entire life. Unfortunately, I’ve never done enough stretching and I have some muscles that are extremely tight. I’ve been considering yoga for some time, and finally got up the nerve to try it this year. I believe I am benefitting from all aspects of yoga, but especially the mixture of stretching, breathing, strength, and balance.
What keeps you coming back to kOMpose?
It’s close to my house (I usually ride my bike), the staff are great to work with, and it’s competitively priced. I have no reason to look anywhere else.
Is trying a new class intimidating for you?
A little, but I’ve learned not to worry too much about what I can and can’t do.
Why did you decide to become a Purple Posse Member?
I felt like I had a lot of work to do if I wanted to gain flexibility, and when I decide to do something I usually jump into it pretty hard. I assumed I could work yoga into my schedule three or four times a week. At that level of usage, the Purple Posse pricing looked really good. I think it’s a great deal.
