Get to Know Your Teacher: Lindee Welsh
We know there’s not always time to get to know your yoga teachers in class, which is why we want to start shining a brighter spotlight on all of them here on the blog!
Here are some fun facts to help you get to know Lindee Welsh:
What is currently on your playlist?
I probably drive all of my friends crazy with my music taste because it changes every day, every hour. It really depends on my mood and what I’m doing.
Recently, for my dance vibes I have been listening to Maluma and J Balvin. My heavy rotation consists of Nao, James Blake, Anderson paak, and Brandi Carlile. I’ve been listening to a lot of Queen radio, '90s radio or classical piano as well.
So random. Don’t worry though. My class playlists are much more structured to move with us as we flow.
What are you reading right now?
Currently, I have two main books that I rotate between: The Idiot by Elif Batuman and Maigret se trompe by Georges Simenon. I tend to migrate toward award winning books because I’m terrible at deciding. I also try to keep one French book by the bed so that I keep practicing my French after moving back to the states. Sometimes it helps inspire a sentence or two in French in my dreams.
Honestly, I own way too many books. I can’t help but to buy them when I’m at a bookstore even though I have a kindle. I just love the feeling of turning a page and not having a screen in front of my face all the time.
Outside of yoga what do you spend your time doing?
When I was in college, I was so consumed with deadlines and assignments that I neglected time for myself. I have become a lot better in recent years, taking time to create a more balanced life.
I love spending time with my family and friends. I tend to shop in my free time. It’s something I wish I did less of honestly, but baby steps. I love to relax and read, watch tv, or go to the movies. I sing a lot- in the car, shower or at home- so you could catch me shaking my rump dancing to Bruno Mars at any time during the day.
Because I grew up around my dad painting, I am always inspired by artists or creating art, so I’ll take classes at the Broad Ripple Arts Center, Line and Form Atelier in Irvington or I will draw or paint at home.
What are you learning or focusing on in your practice?
I am really focusing on consistency. When my routine is thrown off by this or that in my life, my practice suffers. Not only in the physical sense, but also in my demeanor and in my attitude toward myself and the people around me. I love having a consistent yoga practice because it reminds me of the person that I want to be and gives me something to aspire to in my physical practice.
Strength is another focus of mine. While I do put an enormous emphasis on the mental benefits of yoga, I love the feeling after a workout when I feel and look stronger. Not only is it a great confidence booster, but when I’m in that pose that challenges me and I’m rocking it out because I’ve put in the work, I am filled with an energy and light that’s very inspiring.
I am also learning to really tune in to my body and take time to practice both yang yoga-vinyasa- and yin yoga. I have noticed a HUGE improvement in my flexibility and joint discomfort after practicing yin. I love learning everything about yin yoga. It is amaaazing!
